I remember the day I decided to start my skincare brand. It was a warm afternoon, it was ‘teatime’ (around 3pm when everything stops, and we sit talking over tea and cucumber sandwiches! ), I was sipping my of British tea, when out of nowhere I began to reflect on my journey: from a humble life in Africa to having a street address in the United States of America! That sounds silly but it’s true. I grew up on 5000 acres, the nearest town was hours away so we would collect mail once a week at the post office in town. No street address out there! My life was so vastly different.
Growing up, I watched my mom and grandmother create skincare solutions from the herbs and leaves she harvested from our land. She taught me how to repurpose even the simplest of containers, turning them into vessels for her homemade potions.
Inspired by these memories, I envisioned a brand that would celebrate the rich traditions of my heritage while promoting sustainable and eco-friendly practices. I dreamed of creating a line of skincare products that harnessed the power of tea—packed with antioxidants and benefits for various skin types. This vision became Tea-licious Skincare, where each product tells a story of my roots and commitment to the environment.
Embracing Sustainable Skincare Practices
As I began formulating my first product, I knew that sustainability had to be the cornerstone of my brand. I sought out natural ingredients, ensuring that each ingredient was ethically harvested and environmentally friendly. I wanted to create products that not only benefited the skin but also respected the Earth. As I was taught to do.
One of the first products I developed was a black tea-and orange infused soap. I combined black tea extract with my oils, and orange essential oil fir a fresh scent. I was thrilled to see how well it turned out. From the moment I removed it from the mold and sliced my first ever soap bar, I was hooked!
Incorporating the principles of zero-waste beauty into my brand was just as important. My packaging and labels had to be biodegradable and eco friendly. It felt rewarding to know that I was not only sharing my heritage but also promoting a sustainable lifestyle.
The Magic of Natural Ingredients
As I continued to develop my product line, I discovered the incredible benefits of using natural ingredients tailored to various skin types. I began to experiment with different tea blends and their unique properties. For instance, I created a calming chamomile lotion bar that worked wonders for dry, sensitive skin.
My daughter Natalie, a mother of 4, joined my business as the head formulator after completing a 2 year training course with a natural skincare teacher in India. She wanted to be taught by someone who shared our values and vision for pure and wholesome skincare. Together we created a line of all natural body and face products from a revitalizing baobab tea hydrating mists to a pomegranate serum, tea infused soap and a lotion bar which is a mess-free way to deeply hydrate the skin, while also promoting sustainability through minimal packaging and reusable containers. Each time we received feedback from someone who had tried our products and experienced positive results, we felt a deep sense of fulfillment. It was a reminder of why we started this journey in the first place.

As my brand continues to grow, I remain committed to my roots and the values that inspired me to start Tea-licious Skincare. I am constantly exploring new tea blends and natural ingredients, always seeking ways to innovate while staying true to sustainable practices.
