Why Skincare Marketing Trends Are Concerning
Walk into any beauty store and you’ll see the same words over and over again.
“Natural.”
“Clean.”
“Luxury.”
“Dermatologist Inspired.”
“Botanical.”
“Anti-Aging.”
“Clinically Proven.”
After a while, they all begin to sound the same.
One day, I found myself asking a question.
Who decides these words?
Because while they may appeal to us, your skin doesn’t pay any attention to them.
Your skin doesn’t know whether your moisturizer came in a beautiful glass jar.
It doesn’t know whether a celebrity recommended it.
It doesn’t know whether it was advertised during your favorite TV show.
Your skin only knows one thing.
The formula.
Marketing Speaks to Your Eyes. Ingredients Speak to Your Skin.
Please don’t misunderstand me.
I love beautiful branding.
Beautiful photography and thoughtful packaging make skincare feel special.
But somewhere along the way, many brands stopped explaining their products and started selling a lifestyle instead.
If you’ve ever wondered why that happened, you’ll enjoy reading Why Do Skincare Brands Focus on Selling a Lifestyle Instead of a Product?
At Tea-Licious Skincare, we’ve chosen a different path.
We’d rather explain our formulations than rely on vague promises.
Why We Explain So Much
People often tell me our product descriptions are longer than everyone else’s.
They’re right.
That’s because I don’t believe trust begins with clever marketing.
It begins with understanding.
If I’m asking you to trust me with your skin, then I think you deserve to know:
• Why we chose an ingredient.
• Why we left another one out.
• Why we slowly infuse tea for weeks before we formulate.
• Why every ingredient has to earn its place.
That’s exactly why our Skin Wisdom Library exists.
Five Questions Every Skincare Shopper Should Ask
Instead of asking whether a product is trendy…
Ask these questions instead.
1. What’s the first ingredient?
The first ingredient usually makes up the largest percentage of the product.
That one simple question can tell you a surprising amount about what you’re buying.
If you’ve never looked at an ingredient list this way, read Why Are We Paying Premium Prices for Products That Are Mostly Water?
2. Why is every ingredient there?
Ingredients shouldn’t simply sound impressive.
They should have a purpose.
At Tea-Licious, every ingredient has to answer one question before it goes into a formula.
“What job are you doing for the skin?”
If it can’t answer that question, it doesn’t belong there.
3. Where did the botanicals begin?
Many skincare companies add botanical extracts near the end of formulation.
We chose a different approach.
Before we ever make a cream, lotion bar or soap, our teas are already slowly infusing into nourishing botanical oils.
If you’d like to understand why we formulate that way, read Why Plant Extracts Don’t Dominate Our Skincare.
4. Am I paying for ingredients or advertising?
This is one of my favorite questions.
Quality ingredients absolutely cost money.
Responsible manufacturing costs money.
Safety testing costs money.
But sometimes you’re also paying for celebrity endorsements, luxury packaging and massive advertising campaigns.
That’s why we wrote Why Does Skincare Cost So Much?
Understanding where your money goes helps you become a much more confident skincare shopper.
5. Is this formula supporting my skin barrier?
Healthy skin isn’t simply about adding more products.
It’s about protecting the skin barrier you already have.
Many of our formulations begin with one simple thought:
How can we work with the skin instead of against it?
If skin barriers are new to you, our article Why Your Skin Barrier Matters is a wonderful place to start.
Curiosity Built Tea-Licious
If my old school reports still exist somewhere, they probably all say the same thing.
“Lorraine asks too many questions.”
Looking back…
I think they were right.
I’ve never accepted,
“Because that’s just how it’s done.”
Tea-Licious exists because I kept asking why.
Why tea?
Why not extracts?
Why waterless?
Why baking soda?
Why this ingredient?
Why not that one?
Those questions became our philosophy.
Our Mission Isn’t to Sell You More Skincare
It’s to help you understand skincare better.
Whether you buy from us or not.
Because once you understand ingredients…
Formulation…
Marketing…
And your skin…
You’re no longer choosing products because someone told you they were amazing.
You’re choosing them because you understand why they deserve a place in your routine.
And to me, that’s what Skin Wisdom is all about.
